DGG story as seen in Voyage Dallas
Amanda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In April 2017, I had been back in Dallas for about 9 months and was looking to network with more like-minded people. Earlier that year, I had started blogging and connected a lot through social media and some events, but it wasn’t building lasting relationships that continued beyond that one event or meet up. So, I took the handful of friends I had made and created a simple Facebook group, Dallas Girl Gang, and we originally just wanted to support each other online and try to meet up. Almost 1 1/2 years later, we now have 1,450+ women in our community ACTIVELY engaged in our posts and events and it grows by the hundreds every week I feel like!
Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, the biggest struggle has been that it has been a 1 woman show from day 1! I finally got smart and let go a little and asked for help! I hired a summer intern for help which was awesome, and I now have a dozen or so women who are DGG Ambassadors that represent us across the city and at events that I myself cannot attend.!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dallas Girl Gang – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At Dallas Girl Gang, we are all about connecting, community, and real relationships. We are probably known most for our badass entrepreneur and creative women in our community as well as events for connecting and networking! I am so PROUD that Dallas Girl Gang has a clear message and goal and that people are hungry to find that community where they belong, so that is why we have grown. It has been so organic, it actually took me a while to see just how this was growing! It’s so unique because all women are invited to be a part of this community. Whatever background, profession, hobby, goals… #youcansitwithus! We want you. 🙂 No one was meant to do life alone.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Women, especially if they are active at all on social media, have the unique opportunity right now in our world to stop everything and evaluate how we use our time, capabilities, and voice. Every woman has a kick-a** story that needs to be shared. Whether it pertains to your job, or maybe you want to start a business around your passion and story, get it OUT into the world. Someone else is looking for it.
I also believe that women can easily find their strengths and weaknesses, cut the crap, and collaborate with one another! Dallas Girl Gang offers that sense of #communityovercompetition and we encourage it. I don’t view my fellow babes in DGG as competition, but I see an opportunity to put great minds together! Everyone has great strengths, so let’s find the puzzle pieces that fit together!
